Ranger
This
is the most basic unit of the US army. However, it is an unwise
General who takes this highly trained unit for granted. For
a start they are the only US unit able to capture an enemy structure
so that the building can be used. Secondly if you choose to
upgrade them with flash-bang grenades then they can clear a
garrisoned structure killing all inside. How useful! Try not
to use them against armored units or structures as they can
only do little damage with a great degree of risk but against
other infantry especially if used in large groups they will
do you proud. A neat trick is to order several into a Chinook
helicopter and then drop them onto an occupied building.

Missile Defender
When
sending out your Rangers why not use some Missile Defenders
alongside? A Missile Defender naturally enough carries a rocket
launcher and is very useful against those armored units that
the Rangers are vunerable to. These chaps are handy to keep
in reserve against possible tank assaults and are also capable
of taking out a building if used in a team. Just be aware of
how easy a target they are against gun toting enemy Infantry.
Finally they can point their rocket launchers skyward too so
they are very handy for anti aircraft duty. |
|
 |
Pilot
Sometimes
even the most elite of Generals will lose aircraft or tanks
in battle. But with the US army once one of these units through
battle has taken the first step towards veteran status it means
that the pilot or driver can escape from a dying plane or tank
and survives. Of course once they have bailed out they are very
vunerable but if they can be placed in another vehicle then
their veteran status will be added to that new vehicle. Neat
huh? |
|
 |
Colonel Burton
Remember
Tanya from Red Alert? This Guy is from the same mold and can
really take care of him and anything else that gets in his way.
He can kill silently with a knife; lay timed or even remote
explosives. The downside? You can only ever have one Colonel
Burton at any given time. |
|
 |
Pathfinder
Pathfinders
carry a long-range rifle and are able to kill another infantry
unit with a single shot. If you place a team of them into a
vehicle such as the Humvee they can be very destructive against
enemy infantry. |

|
|
Construction Dozer
First
up the Dozer is a vital piece of equipment because without one
of these you can't build any structures. The handy thing here
is you can have a team of Dozers each constructing a building
for you at the same time. However you can't have more than one
working on the same building. They have no weapons but in desperate
times you can attempt to use them to run over and crush enemy
infantry. Ouch! |
|
 |
Humvee
Because
of its speed this vehicle is great for scouting unsheltered
parts of the map. It's possible to accommodate five infantry
within the Humvee and there are ports that enable them to shoot
outside. On it's own it's ineffective against armoured targets
but it's a different situation if you add some of those rocket
carrying missile defenders. |
|
 |
Crusader Tanks
This
tank is better armoured than either the Chinese or GLA equivalent.
They are great to use when attacking armoured targets or structures
but dealing with Infantry is harder. Sometimes it makes more
sense to try and run over Infantry especially if you have a
squad of tanks. They are also useful for quick hit and run tactics
in order to harass the enemy. |
|
 |
|
Paladin Tanks
These
are a lot bigger than Crusader Tanks. So although they move
more slowly they are more powerful and subsequently more threatening.
Their weapon is a laser, which means it can defend itself
with pinpoint accuracy against enemy missiles and infantry.
They are a good all round option although a little expensive.
A good General will look after his men if
he wants them to be effective in battle and therefore it's
a good idea to invest in an ambulance or two. If kept close
to your infantry it will heal any that are wounded. They can
also clear up any toxins caused by the GLA's biological weapons.
An ambulance is capable of transporting three units should
you need to.
|
|
 |
Tomahawk Launchers
This
is a long-range weapon that is good against enemy structures.
If used in a group they can be very destructive. It packs a
large heat seeking warhead that also means it works well against
vehicles. Don't bother using it against infantry though as it
is much less effective. |
|
 |
Ambulance
Although
the Ambulance has no weapons it is still a very handy unit to
have. It can be used to heal any wounded Infantry with in its
vicinity and it is also able to clear up toxins left by the
GLA's biological weapons. Also useful is its ability to carry
three units inside. |

|
|
Chinook
These
large helicopters are vital to you affording a war. They move
cargo from the Supply Center to the Supply Drop Zones and thus
make you money. They are able to move $600 worth each time,
which adds to your growing financial pile. You can also use
them to move ten infantry units or two vehicles and two infantry
units. As mentioned earlier ten Rangers in a Chinook can hover
over an occupied building and by dropping down can take it over
easily. The downside of all this is that a Chinook has no weapons
and therefore is an easy target. |
|
 |
Raptor
You
can have up to four Raptors on an airfield and they were designed
for quick and deadly strikes. They are fitted with laser guided
missiles and can be very effective. Be careful as they are weak
against anti-aircraft fire and can be easily lost. |
|
 |
Aurora Bomber
These
are very destructive high altitude bombers capable of wiping
out complete sections of an enemy base. They can also be used
to halt an advancing enemy force heading in your direction.
But be careful because just like the Raptor they can easily
be taken out by anti-aircraft fire and for an expensive plane
that's the last thing you need. |
|
 |
Stealth Fighter
These
aircraft are extremely fragile but so sneaky because due to
radar jamming they are completely cloaked prior to an attack
run. This means they can launch an attack before the enemy can
respond. Of course like most aircraft they are susceptible to
enemy anti-aircraft fire once seen. |
|
 |
Comanche
These
are attack helicopters armed to the teeth with machine guns
and rockets. This means that once they have attacked a target
with missiles they are normally able to finish them off with
machine gun fire. Although they can be defended against with
good anti-aircraft defenses, when used in large groups they
can handle almost anything. |

Barracks
The
Barracks provide your infantry soldiers. It is also the route
for you to research Flash Bang grenades and upgrade so that
you can give your infantry the ability to capture a building.
|
|
 |
Command Centre
The
Command Centre is the only way in which you can build bulldozers
that will, in turn, allow you to build new structures. This
structure has a built-in radar and can provide you with special
abilities such as the A-10 Air Strike, Paradrops, Spy Drones,
Emergency Repair, Spy Satellite and the Fuel Air Bomb. These
will only be available to you via this building depending on
your promotion during the battle. |
|
 |
Supply Centre
This
structure is used to build Chinook helicopters. They take off
from here and return with supplies from the Supply Docks. |
|
 |
Detention Centre
The
Detention Camp will give you the ability to reveal the entire
map by the simple press of a button. It means that every two
minutes, you will be able to use the Intelligence Option to
show up the whole map thus allowing you to make you battle plan
and pinpoint enemy structures. |
|
 |
War Factory
This
structure produces all the ground vehicles from the Ambulance
to the Tomahawk. It is even able to produce the Tow Missile
that is available as an upgrade to the Humvees. |
|
 |
Airfield
Naturally
enough, the Airfield is where all American aircraft are built.
The aircraft use the Airfield as a base, taking off from and
returning to it after battle. All aircraft, except the Comanches,
can land here. Bear in mind that the Chinooks are only available
via the Supply Centre as mentioned above. The Airfield will
also give you the ability to research Rocket Pod upgrades for
the Comanche Helicopters and Laser Missile upgrades for the
Fighter Aircraft. |
|
 |
Strategy Centre
The
Strategy Centre provides many upgrades. It provides the ability
to build a Supply Drop and a Particle Cannon. The Centre also
gives the ability for three new modes: Search & Destroy
which will give you a scanner, Hold the Line which will
build a wall around the building and every units gets 10% more
armour, and Bombardment which will deploy a defensive
gun and enable your units to do 20% more damage. |
|
 |
Cold Fusion Power Plant
The
Cold Fusion Power Plant provides power for all the structures
and is a vital necessity for your camp. Each reactor generates
5 units of power, which can run several buildings. These reactors
can also be upgraded with Control Rods enabling it to double
its power output. It is important to defend this structure properly
because, if you lose power, you will lose your Patriot Missile
System and a vital means of defence. |
|
 |
Defence Patriot Missile
The
Defence Patriot Missile is a great defensive weapon against
air units and tanks and even incoming missiles, although less
effective against infantry. It's a got idea to position some
infantry around the missile system. |
|
 |
Supply Drop Zone
As
the battle continues, you may find that you are running out
of supplies. Before this happens, build at least one Supply
Drop Zone. That way, every two minutes, a cargo plane will fly
in and will drop $1,500 on the landing pad, ensuring that you
can continue to fund your war. |
|
 |
| top |
 |
|
|
| During the battle your army can gain extra
strengths and abilities depending on how the war is going. As
the battle progresses you, as a General, will be in line for
promotions that in turn will reward your army with the extra
abilities.
When you are notified of a promotion a
menu becomes available listing the extra abilities that are
now there for you to choose from. The higher the promotion
the greater the ability.

ONE-STAR GENERAL ABILITIES
Paladin Tanks
(See US Vehicles section for a description of Paladin
Tanks)
Spy Drone
This enables Spy Drones to be created
around any of your units thus reveling the location of any
enemy hidden units. This is especially useful against GLA
units like Jarmen Kell.
Emergency Repair
With this item chosen all of your units
in a given area are repaired instantly. Three levels of Emergency
Repair are available and as each upgrade arrives so too are
additional repair benefits.
|
|
 |
|
THREE-STAR GENERAL ABILITIES
Pathfinders
(See US Infantry seciton for a description of Pathfinders)
Stealth Fighters
(See US Aircraft section for a description of Stealth
Fighters)
Paradrop
These Rangers become available for a
new drop every four minutes. Through your promotion three
levels will be available to you starting with level one which
gives you five Rangers, level two giving you ten and level
three providing twenty Rangers. They can be dispatched to
any part of the map but caution is required, as the aircraft
that carries the Rangers can be shot down by anti-aircraft
fire with everyone inside lost.
A-10 Strike
As with the Paradrops three levels of
an A10 Strike will become available resulting in an additional
aircraft being used for each new level. Again, they are there
for you to use every four minutes and they can take out enemy
vehicles or to strafe structures. Take care as to where you
send them because they are susceptible to anti-aircraft fire.
|
|
 |
|
FIVE-STAR GENERAL ABILITIES
Fuel Air Bomb
This device is devastating to the enemy.
Used every six minutes a slow bomber advances over enemy territory
and lets go of a hugh explosive on the selected target. This
is normally able to destroy most buildings and also damage
any buildings close by. It's a great weapon but be careful
of anti-aircraft fire.
